Choosing a climbing gym?
I'm new to NYC and trying to decide which gym to join. I live at the northern end of Manhattan on the west side, have a car, and work in the Bronx, so it's not that hard for me to get to the Cliffs or TRC. That said, it'd be nice to not have to drive. I like the vibe at the Cliffs better than TRC, still haven't been to MPHC. Is it a good gym? Anybody know how much it costs for a membership (couldn't find the info on their web-site). Crowded? Easy to find partners? I'm looking to train 3 or so times a week during the cold and wet months. Prefer long enduro leads to bouldering, but don't mind cranking once in a while.
I'm also looking for partners as I'm new to the area. I'm 32, male, safe climber with experience and super psyched to climb. I lead easy 5.10 trad (follow easy 5.11) and hard 5.11 sport (follow mid-5.12). Looking to get to the Gunks a bunch this summer, maybe up to Rumney (I have a car). I'm a teacher so super flexible for the next month. Gimme a shout!

MPHC is nice, but roped routes are short (30 ft max), although pretty intense and interesting, IMO. They're big on bouldering, so the roped routes usually are not very crowded. I've never seen anyone leading there, maybe because the lead routes are in the bouldering room? If you want to check it out one of these days, I can belay you.
