Top Roping Near NYC

Hi all,

I've been climbing for a couple of months with some friends, and I am in the 5.8/5.9 climbing range. I would love to get outside and start with some top-roping. What are the closest areas from NYC to setup some worthwhile toprope climbs.

I'm also looking for someone experienced with top ropes to come along and teach me the ins and outs of top roping. I have a rope and plan on buying the necessary tubing, slings and biners.
