Resole Guatemala 6-16-09

Recently we replaced nearly all of our rental shoes but we didn't know what to do with the 30+ pairs of old shoes. After a long roundabout discussion, Marco mentioned that the gym where he learned to climb in Guatemala doesn't have rental shoes. It turns out that the cost of a new pair of shoes is equal to one month's living wages. Can you imagine trying to buy climbing shoes when they cost you a month's income? YIKES! After some research and avoidance from most resolers, Plattsburgh Shoe Hospital agreed to resole all of our shoes and ship them to Guatemala for approximately $2000

Here's what we're going to do:

On Tuesday, June 16th, the MPHC Climbing Gym, with help from The Pony Bar and EMS SoHo are going to throw a huge Fundraiser and a 7:00pm Competition. The Competition will be a team event. All participants, whether beginner or expert, will earn equal points for completing a climb. MPHC staff will be placing you in one of 4 teams, organized according to ability. All details will be announced on the day of the event. The winning team will receive pint glasses with the MPHC Logo, The Pony Bar logo and Resole Guatemala logo. Extra pint glasses will be available for sale, with proceeds going to resoling.

Everyone who makes a donation at the Climbing Gym on June 16th receives a coupon from The Pony Bar for 1/2 off your first drink.
All donations will be matched by MPHC. Anything over our goal of $2000 will go towards helping purchase new safety equipment for the Guatemala Climbing Gym.
