New in NYC- looking for a climbing partner
Hi!
I am new in New York and will be living here for the next 6 months. I am looking for a climbing partner, to go climbing 1 or 2 times a week.
I've been climbing a few years but not always so regularly, and not at all the last 6 months. Last time I was climbing regularly I climbed on level 5b-c (Those might be swedish/European levels, I'm not sure of the equivalent here, not very advanced.).
I live in Brooklyn south of prospect park, but can travel a little bit to other parts of NY.

Hi Karin
I will be in town in January and would like to check the boulder spots along Manhattan. Would you like to join me? Let me know if you are interested, ok?
Bye

Hi Karin,
Are you interested in climbing at the MPHC near Time Square?
Steve
I think you might have already found somebody .
However, I am already climbing in Chelsea Pier but want to do it more regularly... if you are interested. My level in the gym up to 5.10 a (equivalent to Fr 6a ; Fr 5b is the equivalent of 5.8) ...
You can have a look on my profile on rockclimbing.com .
Cheers , Yves.
Hi.
Well I am not Karin, my name is Milan and I would like to start climbing, I did it couple years ago, but I forgot almost everything, but I am in good shape and I'd like to start again, I wanna buy all the equipment I need, I am serious about it, I always liked it, but didn't have time.
I would go 2 times a week, but of course I need some information.
I don't even know good stores for climbers here in city, where I could get a shoes and harness. Maybe you could help me.
Thanks
Milan
Two places for gear in Manhattan: Eastern Mountain Sports (EMS) on Broadway just south of Houston Street, and Tent & Trail down in the financial district. Both places are limited, but EMS at least has people that are helpful. Tent & Trail is, IMHO, a waste of time.
Best place in the area for gear is Rock & Snow, in New Paltz (the Gunks) - www.rockandsnow.com. Other options include climbing gyms near NYC, but in Westchester County - The Cliffs at Valhalla, and TRC in New Rochelle. You'll pay top dollar, but at least you'll have a selection.
Cheers,
Tai
I know that if you are just looking for shoes and harness, TRC usually has some markdowns in both those categories, and a good variety. They don't keep much outdoor gear (Valhalla has more of that). They will let you try out the shoes on the wall for a few minutes to get the feel of them. If you are lucky, one of the "Shoes for sale-bought wrong size-never worn" ads on the board will suit you.
hey Karin,
I'd love to meet up sometime, i just moved to brooklyn too. I climb 5.10a-b. So if we wanna pick a time and place, lemme know. Evenings and weekends are best since I work. Lemme know.
I also live in Brooklyn if anyone wants to do some climbing. I'm relatively new to the sport by am willing to learn.
