The Rock Club is great, in fact, my boyfriend and I live in New Rochelle and are members. We are looking for a new apartment, and proximity to The Rock Club is one of our main considerations! It is a lovely, clean space, with fun routes and bouldering problems. The staff are always friendly, and they have a small cardio center on the premises, which means I get everything I want out of a gym in one place. I love The Rock Club. Only bad thing is, now it is very popular and is more crowded than when I first started going- bad for me, great for them.

this is the best gym in the triborough area hands down..(or maybe i should say hands up:))
when you walk into the rock club you immediately feel welcome no matter what your level,
it is really ez to get too, plus there are tons of people that commute up to climb so thats not a problem..
i love this climbing gym!

How long have you worked there?

The NY Metro Climbing Meetup meets at TRC weekly. Some folks go to meetup to train hard so they will be ready for their spring trips, or find partners after not climbing for years; these 'real climbers' encourage the newbies to get up to speed-why not, it gives them belayers! TRC also has The Adult Climbing League and Bouldering Circuit League, both are fun motivators to try to climb hard and get better (it got me to start leading). Obe, Brett, and the Not-Famous setters do a great job and change out the routes with good frequency, they don't get stale. The lead arch is awesome and very popular with some very excellent climbers; in my case it mostly serves as a whipper-takeoff point but it gives me a goal. It is indeed easy to get to from NYC; about a 12 minute walk from the New Rochelle train station and/or easy to catch a ride (there is a rideshare board on the gym website).

I’ve only been to TRC once and really enjoyed it. It’s a great space, with nice walls, and huge bouldering section. I only climbed the 5.10’s and was able to flash 2 of them while some others were good prep for 5.11’s. The bouldering had some good v2's and 3's and I had fun getting denied by the v4's. The staff was friendly and helpful, pointing out routes that they thought we might like based on our skill level. If I lived in New Rochelle or Harlem I would definitely make it my home gym, but as it stands being from Astoria it’s a little bit of a trek (unless you drive and don't mind the toll) so I’ll be relegated to going once a month.

My wife and I each got unsolicited emails from TRC today re: Yoga Classes.

Yep - exactly what I'd expect from Dave.

When will you fess up about your sad self promotion?
No - not just the emails
BUT
The faux postings about how great TRC is.
The family member writing as if she were a disinterested party.
The non-answers to specific questions.

i agree with derf.....its like trc is calling us morons while asking for our money?
i am sure the gym is great and all but the methods of advertizing are misleading and unethical and prompt me to avoid the gym altogether.
i remember the threads from the old climb nyc about this issue and am glad people(thomas, derf and taino) are finally is raising it again, guess this should spice up the site!
