Fort Tryon - Life is Beautiful Boulder
Location(s)
Life is Beautiful V4 Highball, and Funky Overhanging Traverse V?
Fort Tryon - Main Boulder
Location(s)
A good warm up boulder with blast holes. Sidewalk landing. V0 - V3
Edgecombe North
Location(s)
A block long boulder, V0 (to as difficult as you want to make it) routes. Northern section is ~18 feet.
Edgecombe South face
Location(s)
harder 20ft+ climbing, lots of potential
Fort Tryon - North Cliff
Location(s)
The cliff face in the north of Ft. Tryon park looks great. Enter the park just south of the play ground at Riverside Dr. and B'Way (A-line, Dyckman St. Station). Follow the main path west and uphill (making a slight left not too far in). Just past a huge walkable slab lies a decent looking outcrop, 40ft high, right on the path. The landing has some dirt but mostly it's the path, otherwise the area is clean, and seem to have low foot traffic. Top roping possible?
It has a slab sections, 2 large overhangs and a prow, so there's plenty of variation for a single site.
Fort Tryon - Other Boulder
Location(s)
Several hard climbs on this boulder. Follow path thru the tunnel from the "Life is Beautiful" Boulder, and its on the left hand side. The face is direccted away from the path down the slope. soft dirt, low glass landing.
Expressway cliffs
Location(s)
30-40 ft cliffs overlooking Trans-Manhattan Expressway, lots of potential. Entry to the top of the cliff can be made via small boulder and fence at 178th St. and Amsterdam Ave. (the wall just north offers a good vantage of the site). Trees and fence offer potential top roping site. Access the bottom of the cliff by following the path adjacent to the exit ramp, enter at 175th and Amsterdam and cross just before freeway. Landing is a large concrete area with dirt/grass edge.
Harlem River Drwy Areas
Location(s)
Several areas between 155th and the marker (@wet arete) follow the path to end at a grass area with further boulders to explore in the slightly sketchy woods.
Wet Arete area (marked) is the obvious sharp and slightly overhanging arete ~15-20 ft high. With an obvious line up the arete and one or two up the overhanging face.
loony bin - north boulder
Location(s)
A medium sized boulder on riverside dr, a little north of 165th st with a bunch of potential routes. There is a smaller boulder (loney bin - south boulder) at the 165th st. junction, this is a good warm up spot.
J Hood Wright Boulder
Location(s)
A small 20 yard section of cliff (partly overhanging), 15 feet high, located in J. Hood Wright Park (North West corner). Vegetation is periodically cleaned off the rock and it is clean underneath. Some glass, dirt landing, unfortunately there is a fence about 1 to 2 yards from the face, although this has slowly been collapsing over the last few year. And once it does, access to the face will be much easier.
Worthless Boulder
Location(s)
The south and west sides are too low to boulder on but the rock is slanted and the other 3 faces give excellent bouldering, amongst the best in the park. Facing south climbs are described from left to right. There are many problems on this boulder and eliminates (where you purposely leave out a hold to make the problem harder); I am only giving a selection of my favourite problems here (see topo .gif):
