Do you set up a top rope here? Or is it bouldering?

this is highbridge park...if you havent checked out the climbing on the east side of the park which borders the harlem river drive i suggest you do.....caves and cavemen!

Tom, roped climbing is illegal in any city park. We're limited to bouldering.

There is no roped climbing allowed in CP. My understanding is that it is permitted in the other parks.

I believe the official rules that were agreed upon between NYC Parks and Recreation Dept and the Original City Climbers Club in the 80's is as follows:

No equipment can be used to secure yourself to the rock surface. This would include top-roping, leading, aiding or anything that requires "gear".

A line had to be drawn between Rock Climbing and just playing on the rocks. By saying you can't use specialty equipment they have been able to distinguish between the two. So bouldering is allowed and all that may be used is a pad and it doesn't help you up the rock surface.

Please do not attempt to top-rope in the city as it may open up the possibility for future rules against us.

Thanks

P.S. if anyone knows what the Stautue number and/or the official wording in the Parks Dept Rule book is please post it on the main topic page. It can be useful to have as I have been harrassed bouldering in the Marcus Garvey Park. Thanks
